On 31 March the ANU College of Law is facilitating a Higher Degree Research Masterclass titled ‘How to get a job after the PhD’. Jeremy Boland, Principal Consultant at Gillian Beaumont Legal, is presenting a session on getting a job in government and industry. The session will cover who is hiring for what kinds of roles at what starting salaries, what attributes put a candidate straight onto a short list, resume writing and interview tips. Jeremy will draw on his broad professional experience in government and the private sector, and his experience teaching undergraduate and postgraduate law students, as well as his experience working with Commonwealth and State and Territory Governments and private sector law firms to recruit lawyers, legal policy officers, corrections staff and administrators and others. Other sessions will cover getting a job in academia and practical exercises designed to encourage thinking about resume writing and explaining the content and application of PhD research to employers. The Masterclass will be livecast via a closed Facebook group.
